What is Branding and Why is it Important for your Business?

How many of us heard the word branding, business branding, personal branding, branding tailored to our business. But what exactly is branding? And why is it important for business owners to brand themselves?

There is no doubt that proper branding creates the business reputation over the years and not just the word branding is considered a term in the business world. A second before I dive in, I will ask you to remember how you first set up your business. What was the first thing you thought about? What was the first action you did? And how is this reflected in branding?

How to start a business branding process?

The word brand is a product and a tag, meaning a label of a business, a clear identity with unique characteristics that indicate the differentiation of the product or service in relation to the market. Business owners make sure to maintain a unique branding method which is based on brand values. All of this is reflected in the visibility and in what the business conveys.

Sometimes there is confusion and people tend to think that branding for a business is just graphic design, logo design, business cards, design language, brand colors and visibility on digital platforms. It is important to note that choosing a business name is the first thing to do before anything I have mentioned. The first thing you usually start with is choosing a business name. The business name can be the name of the product being sold, the name of the service being offered or even the name of the business owner himself. The business name reflects the values and vision of the business in most cases, and it also reflects the benefits of the business to potential customers.

 What is the next step?

Once we have chosen the brand name, values, vision and even managed to imagine what the business will look like. Now, let's think about the type of audience we are targeting. I know, sometimes we will not be able to be precise as to our audience about the beginning but it is important to focus and dwell on an issue and this requires an in-depth strategic business thinking process that must be done properly and preferably with a professional in the field. .

After choosing the business name, we defined an audience, characterized and recorded the product values and business vision. Approach the creative part of the product and/or service. This usually includes: choosing brand colors, fonts, textures (visually enriches the look of the business and/or product), creating a logo, creating a business card, signs, designing posts, photos, videos and more.

What are brand values?

  • A clear and accurate identity.
  • The business is clear and easy to understand.
  • The business is different and differentiated (thus creating a competitive advantage).
  • The business speaks emotions (emotions).
  • The business provides a beneficial value.
  • The business gives a sense of desirability.

Who needs branding for a business from small businesses to large ones?

Everyone. Every business needs branding that is accurate for them. In addition, it is advisable for any business that sells products or services to maintain a blog with diverse and tangent content for the business area. In the past, there was a widespread opinion that blogs would deal with only one niche or one area. Today, the situation is different. Business owners understand that in order to develop and be exposed to as many potential customers as possible, they must run a blog with diverse and rich content. All the more so if they have more than one product or service to offer.

What is the length of time a business owner needs to invest in branding?

In the world of communication, it is customary to say of businesses "to know, to like, to trust". Potential customers need time to get to know the business (product, service or both), see that they are able to identify with the business and its values and ultimately, trust it enough to purchase a product or service from it. Constant and consistent branding leads to a lot of trust in customers and especially in potential customers who follow you for a long time before they purchase your service or product. Also, both language and tone of writing (unless you are doing vlogging) should be done consistently and accurately. When potential customers read content that business owners publish, whether in articles, digital platforms, website, etc., they are able to identify your brand language, identify with it and connect to it.
